Working Science – Primary Science Workshops

Working Science provides innovating and exciting science workshops for primary schools. All of our workshops are ‘hands on’ and allow all pupils to engage in scientific investigations.

Our workshops can either be provided in your class or a school hall, bringing all the excitement of a science outing to your school without the cost of a trip to a science centre.

Our workshops support schools by offering specialist science resources and our presenter’s real scientific expertise to schools. Our science workshops allow children to try ‘hands-on’ to stimulate questioning and kinaesthetic learning in a safe controlled environment.

We provide memorable and challenging experiences that complement and extend the learning of science in the National Curriculum at KS1 and KS2.

Pupils can investigate electricity, circuits, space and astronomy, chemistry, light, sound and materials. We have prepared a range of science workshops that have been tested in schools and have be found to be stimulating and enjoyable.

They allow children to explore scientific equipment and real world science examples that they would not usually see. They also extend children’s learning and provide real life examples to anchor science concepts in real world examples. These really are workshops that you cannot get anywhere else.

Teachers give us outstanding reviews saying they “would recommend these workshops without hesitation”. Our workshops have been developed by a PhD physicist with extensive background knowledge about how science is used in research and industry.

Dr Gareth Francis has a degree and PhD in Physics and astrophysics. He has also worked in business for the past 12 years and can provide real life examples of science in action to school children.

Workshops for Science Week - Astronomy and space workshops.

Our ‘hands on’ KS2 ‘Space, stars and the Universe’ workshops enable your classes to discover the science behind the planets and stars. We will cover the birth and death of stars, study the solar system and constellations and stellar objects such as black holes, and supernovae.

We extend pupils’ learning through hands on activities including investigating gravity on different planets and what the light coming from distant stars tells us. Our ‘Getting into space’ workshop focuses on travelling into space, showing how the Space Shuttle and rockets get into orbit, and how astronauts live aboard the International Space Station.

This hands on session includes launching rockets and investigating the scientific problems that have been overcome to make launching rockets routine.

Science workshops for Eco or Environment weeks Eco-electricity workshop -

Supporting an environment week this workshop is suitable for Years 2 – 6. This interactive workshop allows children to generate electricity using renewable energy sources including building electricity generating windmills, investigating solar panels and making electricity from potatoes or citrus fruits.

It discusses the pros and cons of current electricity generation techniques and introduces environmentally friendly methods instead.

Science workshops for School Enterprise week – Perfume making and marketing workshop

These workshops give your pupils the chance to make perfumes from essential oils using chemistry equipment and techniques and provides the knowledge to market, promote and sell these perfumes to parents or others to generate revenue as part of a school Enterprise week.

It demonstrates to pupils how science, manufacturing, branding and pricing need to work together to develop a successful business idea, and enables pupils to develop, produce and market a high quality saleable product to customers.

We are fully CRB checked and insured to work in your school. Booking is easy and hassle free.
