2014 will mark 100 years since the start of the First World War.

As part of our WW1 workshop, Private William Arthur Elland, 3 section, 2nd platoon D company of the 2nd Bedfordshire Regiment will visit your school to talk about his time during the Great War.

Private Elland will talk to the children about his experiences and give them an insight in to what life was like in those times.

To start the session Private Elland takes you back to when he first decided to sign up to become a soldier along with his Father at the outbreak of the war.

Our soldier then explains about his basic training and demonstrates some of the fitness excercises used before getting the children to 'Fall in' for their marching drill.

Private Elland will then move on to talk to the children about his using his rifle along with other artillery drills before talking with the children about his daily routine and trench life including digging latrines, the post office, dealing with trench foot and showing children what it was like living with the dreaded rats!

The session will end with an old fashioned sing song and a read of a few letters from home.

Our World War One workshop is a great way to cover this topic for children at Key Stage One or Key Stage Two
