About:

Our Women of World War One workshop follows a young woman on her journey through the long war years.

Winifred Adams talks about her involvement in the Great War of 1914-18. She outlines the different roles of women during the war years and how it changed the outlook of the whole country.

Winifred starts the session by talking about her younger days working on the farm and when her Dad and Brother first joined up and went away leaving her Mum and Sisters behind to look after everything.

Following on from this, Winifred then goes on to talk about how women's lives changed dramatically during the course of the war and describes some of the jobs undertaken by females at the time.

Winifred will talk about the munitions workers, The Land Army, The Post Office, female spies, clerical work and nursing on the western front working with the VAD in a field hospital.

As well as this, Winifred will also demonstrate to the children all of the equipment used in her varying roles to ensure that the children are completely involved during our interactive sessions.

This World War One workshop is a great way to cover this topic for children at Key Stage One or Two.
