We would welcome the opportunity to hold an interactive, educational and stimulating session on sex and relationships as part of PSHE.

We discuss the following issues with the students

  • What is their ideal relationship?
  • What is the role of a girl and boy in relationships....are the boys meant to be commanding, dominating and in charge, whilst the girl's are submissive, tolerant and passive as they follow the boys lead?
  • How would they define a damaging or dangerous relationship?
  • Have they experienced such a relationship or has their friend or someone they know?
  • Explore the TRAP IDEA. This is a common term with young people. This idea is that girl's are encouraged to be sexy and sexually active in order to get and keep a boy, but then they get the label as being a slut or a sket for doing so when the boy dumps them. The possibility of getting dumped is high as some boys are more focused on sleeping with many girls as opposed to having lasting relationships.

The Strategy for encouraging engagement with the session is to create characters that represent different young people they are familiar with and role play their lives and experiences with love, sex and relationships. This allows young people to explore their own thoughts and ideas under the guise of a fictional character.  It offers them a safe place to explore their own ideas and deep rooted thoughts.
The key objective is to encourage the young people to share their ideas, thought and experiences and explore the sources, effects and consequences of their decisions. We want them the formulate realistic strategies and tools designed  to equip them to make wise choices in a culture designed to negatively affect their approach to love, sex and relationships
